Boyd H - It's a good point you make. Maybe there is simply to more effective system of avoiding this scenario than to ensure that people remain educated and in the know about their own policy and tech. I recall clearly an introduction that Noah Webster wrote in the first major dictionary he issued in 1828. In so many words he said that the reason he spent nearly 30 years preparing the dictionary was because in just the short period following the creation of America, people were already trying to mor[censored] and change the definitions of words so as to bring about changes in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In other words, manipulate the country to their benefit through redefinition of words. His intention for issuing the lexicon was to preserve the American language upon which America was formed, so that the system could not be tampered with in the future. DM has redefined matters, as you say, setting precedents that establish "new policy". I'm glad we're talking about this. Maybe it's simply all in the same vein - raise awareness and get everyone to start being responsible for what they know and for THEIR Scientology.

I think the IRS victory and his presentation making it seem that he was crucial to that was the turning point. This gave him the legs to violate the "no int events" policy and away we went with the PR machine. In the LRH death announcement in 86' someone from the crowd said "can't hear you" and he adjusted the micro[censored]one. That would be unheard of now. Altering policy is a no-go I think because it sets a precedent and there won't be grounds for agreement. Endlessly the calls would be "where is this is policy?", unless of course hidden policies are found. The solution is likely to get every scientologist in-the-know. Then we're back to that point in 86' where you can speak out at an event and you can disagree and ask for stats. Jefferson knew the country would go down without a vigilant educated public, there isn't an easier org structural solution to freedom. Also if we're able to win this, it'll be well known by everyone and it wouldn't happen so easily again. It would take a lot after that point to shake agreement that LRH has the final word. And this exterior watchdog hat won't so easily be stigmatized. Going for too much idealism and setting up a system which will for sure cancel out a future type of "X" incident from happening just opens up the door for another similar but different tyranny to come along.

It's a good point RJ. I've wondered on this myself. The fact that he can hold the organization in such sway, against the logic and good sense of thousands of very excellent people. I could be wrong however, but my take on it is that he's a sort of mini Hitler now. His image, even in the eyes of the staff, is distorted beyond all reality. He is simply a man who wields a large stick - nothing more. Maybe he is getting help from outside, and maybe his plan is to make everyone think that he is saving the Church while in fact he's heading it for the brink by pushing it into insolvency by accumulating buildings that no one can afford, draining money into expensive events and lavish releases, all of which could have been done at a fraction of the cost while at the same time he is REFUSING to invest money in broad-scale public campaigns to drive people into the Church. He's definitely gone SP because he's wrong targeting the whole show. But we do have to analyze this further and answer the question - how does a guy like this end up getting into power and staying in power? The answer to the question may well be the same answer that the forefathers of America came up with. They realized that men can go corrupt, and to avoid the sovereign states created by Kings and Queens over seas, they set up a government where a man or a woman could only head up America for terms of 4 years - which was a safety clause that would allow the American people to boot someone out of office who didn't belong there. We may well need something like that in Scientology, because these posts, such as Chairman of the Board and Executive Director Int'l are lifelong assignments - apparently so - and I think we have to return the power to Scientologists to be able to vote in it's leaders - otherwise it's not a republican system, and it's not even democratic - it's simply a demagog or tyranny that no one has any say over and that is completely divergent from the basic principles of Scientology. I'm not sure that LRH foresaw this possibility - or if he did - and he left instructions for how it should be handled - these have been carefully stashed away by the DM camp so as to keep himself in supreme power. In spite of the fact that DM would label the action treasonous - I think it would be great to put it to all Scientologists and show them a fact sheet (not biased) and ask them to vote to keep David Miscavige in office or not. Hell - he's split a cell over that - but that would be basing Scientology on an American system - in the country that it grew up in. In other words, Freedom and freedom to elect one's leaders. What is missing in Scientology right now is that there is NO freedom to elect or chose our leaders. It's being done with papal-mentality - and I think that needs to change. After all - Scientology is public domain - it doesn't belong to its leaders anymore than America belongs to the President in term.

Good article OTB. Miscavige pretty much dramatizes these antisocial characteristics in spades. He is definitely a who, but only a who. We also have to look at why someone like Miscavige can assume so much power and control over the Scientology network. Personally, I can't see how he can do it on his own, even with an internal power push. In my opinion he is part of an agenda that began in the '50's that is finally coming into fruition now. Simply by virtue of the fact that he is able to wreak more destruction on the organization than the combined effort of all previous attempts by various Government agencies in the past.
